Taking a Stand: Ethics and Activism in Music Culture

This round table explores the growing tension and potential within the music, nightlife and festival scene when social and political issues enter the spotlight. From the roots of electronic music in black culture to present-day debates on boycotts, representation, and funding, panelists reflect on how sensitive topics are framed, who gets to speak, and why neutrality is rarely neutral.

With voices from across the field, IKRAAAN, Bader Shashit (Yalla Worldwide / VOEM), Tomas Raeymaekers (Boomtown), and Elisabeth Van Lierop (Worried Citizen), this conversation dives into the politics of nightlife, the ethics of artistic expression, and the collective responsibility of the cultural sector to foster change. Moderated by Ange-Vanessa Nsanzineza.
